Aurora Networks' Award Winning Optical Node Targeting MDUs and Rural Areas Now Available in the Americas
Awarded highest honors in the Diamond Technology Reviews, Aurora Networks' NC2000 showcases innovative technology and expertise
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Oct. 26, 2009 - Aurora Networks, Inc., the only optical transport solution provider focused on delivering a cost-effective, optimized platform for next-generation cable services, today announced that its NC2000 optical node now is available throughout the Americas.
A platform well suited for cable operators expanding their network evolution to the MDU market and low-density rural areas, the NC2000 enables operators to maximize the bandwidth of existing hybrid fiber-coax (HFC), Fiber Deep and RF Over Glass (RFoG) deployments. It simultaneously provides an optimal migration path to future network architectures with support for next-generation access modules, Node PON™, Fiber on Demand™ and BitCoax™.
Earlier this year, Aurora Networks introduced the NC2000 optical node in Europe, helping cable operators maximize the bandwidth of their networks while also providing a smooth migration path for future services and upgrades. Since that debut, the NC2000 has attracted interest on this side of the Atlantic, including the highest "5 Diamond" rating in Broadband Gear Report's Diamond Technology Reviews. Results for the Diamond Technology Reviews will be announced Oct. 28 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2009, taking place in Denver.
The NC2000 optical platform garnered the top-tier rating in the 2009 Diamond Technology Reviews based on several criteria, including the unique and innovative solutions it delivers to the cable market, its ease of use, efficiency, reliability and contribution to profitability. In its review specifications, Broadband Gear Report states the "5" rating recognizes a "superb product that sets a new standard for performance" and "provides groundbreaking and new technical milestones."
The platform's bottom-entry, low-profile design is ideal for cable operators working in space-constrained areas, given that the node's housing can be mounted on walls, inside pedestals and underground.
Operators can deploy the NC2000 platform in both HFC and Fiber Deep applications to support current architectures and future network evolution. The platform is fully compatible with the proven Aurora Networks NC4000 node platform, utilizing common modules and plug-ins, headend equipment for operation and shared integrated status monitoring and control. And when configured as a virtual hub (VHub), the NC2000 Mini-VHub houses a fully operational hub in standard Aurora Networks' node housing. It also enables cable system evolution toward new service deployments such as RFoG, RFPON and GEPON.
"The NC2000 is the perfect tool for cable operators that need to cost-effectively enhance and expand their product slate within the MDU market and in low-density rural areas. The node allows operators to significantly increase network capacity in an effort to deliver the latest in-demand services to MDU residents and other customers without incurring major infrastructure construction costs," said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing, Aurora Networks. "With this product, Aurora Networks is helping cable operators in their ongoing evolution as they deliver more advanced services to MDUs and low-density areas while enabling them to transition to next-generation, cost-effective network technologies."
