Optical Transmission

Traditional HFC

With the most advanced line of optical transport products in the cable industry today, Aurora Networks is the ideal partner for MSOs for any HFC deployment. From traditional HFC to Fiber Deep architectures, PON to commercial services and wireless, Aurora has the leading-edge technology that enables MSOs to meet their network and bandwidth needs most cost-effectively.

For traditional HFC (node plus RF amplifiers), Aurora has all the optical components an MSO needs to successfully roll-out an HFC network. Key components include:

  • Extended reach broadcast transmitters, and DWDM narrowcast transmitters (with 40 wavelengths available on the 100 GHz DWDM ITU grid, ITU-T G.694.1) and associated receivers

  • The industry's broadest range of 1310 nm transmitters, including LcWDM® transmitters, Aurora's O-band WDM solution

  • Aurora's unique line of "Light-Plex"™ modules for both the headend and field to efficiently manage broadcast and narrowcast signals, including the OP3524, OP3534, and OP3334 Light-Plex modules for the headend, and OP4528 and OP4538 Light-Plex modules for the VHub and optical node platforms

  • The award-winning VHub™, providing virtual hub technology to extend the network without incurring the expense of real-estate

  • Optical switches, including OS3200 series 2x1 and 2x2 optical switches and Aurora's unique OS3200M/S Master and Slave optical switches for the headend, and the OS42S1S optical switch for the VHub and optical node platforms

  • A full range of passives for indoor and outdoor use

  • Widely-deployed segmentable node platforms

  • The cable industry's most advanced digital return technology

We recognize that no one solution will suit everyone's circumstances; Aurora's extensive range of products enables us to design a "best-fit" network for each situation.

We also understand that an important consideration when building a traditional HFC network is the ease with which network capacity can be increased. With the widest range of WDM technologies and our patented digital return technology, Aurora's traditional HFC networks can be upgraded very simply, and in many cases quadrupling the targeted services bandwidth (downstream and upstream) using a single optical fiber. Similarly, with our next-generation access modules, including Fiber on Demand™, RFPON and Node PON™, each of which will work in all our node platforms, MSOs have the potential to incorporate these innovative tools into their bandwidth expansion plans.
