Aurora Networks’ Optical Solutions Nab Highest Score in Broadband
Gear Report’s Diamond Technology Reviews
Santa Clara, CA June 17, 2008 For the fourth consecutive
year, optical networking solutions from Aurora Networks have received top honors in
Broadband Gear Report’s Diamond Technology Reviews. An independent panel of cable
engineers awarded a score of 4.5 Diamonds on Aurora’s Node PON™, GE4132M
the highest score given this year. Aurora’s SMART Media Converters™ also
captured a score of 4 Diamonds. The judges evaluated the products on their ability to
help cable operators increase revenue and reduce network operations expenses.
"Aurora has consistently scored well in the Diamond Technology Reviews,
and this year’s scores are just another 'win.' Their technology obviously positions them
as a key provider in the fiber-for-broadband market," said Tim Hermes, publisher of
Broadband Gear Report.
Node PON Module
Aurora’s Node PON module enables cable operators to migrate their installed HFC network
to a standards-based GEPON FTTP network. Operators simply drop the module into any
installed Aurora node and then run fiber through the community. The solution eliminates
the need for operators to re-engineer their networks, thus protecting their investment
in the existing infrastructure.
Additional features include:
- 1 Gbps bidirectional bandwidth
- Support for up to 64 consumers per fiber drop
- Interoperable with existing cable modem back-office provisioning systems
SMART Media Converters
Aurora Network’s SMART Media Converters enable cable operators to deliver 100 Mbps or
1,000 Mbps Ethernet connections over fiber to businesses or high-bandwidth residential
users. The products enable cable operators to extend their existing HFC network to tap
into this rapidly growing revenue stream.
Additional SMART Media Converter features include:
- Support for 15 CWDM wavelengths
- High-density, dynamic CPE enclosure with redundant powering
- Unified CPE form factor and flexible mounting options
- Common modules for both the chassis and CPE applications
- Gigabit modules that utilize small form-factor pluggable (SFP) optics
- Bandwidth rate limiting function
- IEEE 802.3ah OAM remote management, including ''dying gasp''
- MEF-9 and MEF-14 compliance
"We are delighted that Broadband Gear Report’s panel of engineering
and operations experts recognize the contributions that Aurora’s solutions can make
in today’s cable networks," said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing for
Aurora Networks. "Our cable industry focus, combined with our optical networking
expertise, enables Aurora to develop innovative solutions that help operators capture
significant new revenues streams while simultaneously reducing operating expenses."
