Aurora Networks Announces Node PON Module
Fiber-to-the-Premise 5G Node Delivers 4 Gbps Data Throughput and 1 GHz RF Passband
Santa Clara, CA June 11, 2007 Today Aurora Networks announced
a PON Module that enables 100 times more capacity than conventional data delivery methods.
The model GE4132M PON Module fits in any NC4000 series node or Virtual Hub and is compatible
with HFC, Fiber Deep, Fiber on Demand™ and FTTP architectures. As a pioneer in digital
return with built-in node monitoring and embedded Ethernet, Aurora’s development of a PON
Module for cable is a natural step in extending the bandwidth lead against telcos.
Featuring a patent-pending design engineered to ensure compatibility with cable
operators’ existing network infrastructures, a new configuration of the NC4000 series node,
fully populated with four PON Modules, can achieve a combined data throughput rate of 4 Gbps
to service up to 256 homes passed. Coupled with its support for a full 1 GHz RF passband on
a 1550nm transport, this revolutionary Fiber-to-the-Premise ''5G Node'' reaches distances up
to 80 kilometers and can be serviced with a single fiber or two fibers for optical path
protection.
"The development of Aurora’s PON Module is an important step in extending
cable’s bandwidth lead over telephone companies. With its great reach, fiber protection, 1 GHz
RF video overlay and massive bandwidth for data, the 5G Node is an exciting addition to
Aurora’s portfolio of optical transmission solutions," said Doug Combs, Aurora’s vice
president of network architectures and field services.
"Provisioning data services is a snap with plug-and-play or technologies
based on DOCSIS® specifications," said Luis Yu, senior product manager for Aurora.
Aurora will conduct a live demonstration of the 5G Node on June 20-22 in booth
2073 during exhibit hours at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ Cable-Tec
Expo in Orlando.
