Ops Can Profit from Fiber — One Household at a Time — with Aurora Networks New Fiber on Demand™ Solution

Santa Clara, CA — June 21, 2006 — Today at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo in Denver, Aurora Networks unveiled its Fiber on Demand™, a winning solution for cable operators seeking to capture fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) revenue by delivering ultra high-speed data services over optical fiber on an individual subscriber basis. Aurora’s innovative Fiber on Demand™ minimizes capital and operating expenses and maximizes revenue potential by leveraging operators’ existing hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) architectures. The advanced solution also provides operators with significant competitive advantages.

"Aurora’s Fiber on Demand™ architecture allows operators to capitalize on a new revenue stream by deploying dedicated access, optical Ethernet circuits — up to 100 Mbps symmetrically — more rapidly and less expensively than their RBOC competitors. In addition, our solution allows operators to pinpoint deployment whenever and wherever customers demand it," said Luis Yu, Aurora Networks’ senior product manager. "The Fiber on Demand™ solution exemplifies Aurora’s commitment to developing next-generation technology for existing HFC networks."

This powerful architecture, which supports up to 160 optical fast Ethernet circuits per fiber pair as well as legacy node traffic, includes the DS4004U Optical Ethernet Concentrator for installation in NC4000 series optical nodes, the NI3030E Network Interface module for installation at the headend, standards-based customer premises equipment such as the MC1201U or MC1301P Media Converter, and the hardened and strand-mountable PG1210A Power Gateway with power over Ethernet (PoE) support for wireless backhaul applications.

Aurora’s Fiber on Demand™ recently received a 3.5 Diamond Review from Broadband Gear Report’s independent panel of leading cable engineering and operations executives. Aurora Networks will demonstrate Fiber on Demand™ throughout Cable-Tec Expo exhibit hours on June 21-23 in booth 571.
