Aurora Networks Helps Cable Ops Deliver Commercial Services to Hard-to-Reach SMBs
Santa Clara, CA June 15, 2005 Today at the Society of Cable and
Technical Engineer’s (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo in San Antonio, Aurora Networks demonstrated an
innovative solution for cable operators seeking to deliver commercial services to small and
midsized businesses unreachable via aerial or underground coaxial cable or fiber due to
expense, regulatory considerations or landlord challenges.
"Aurora Networks responded to our customers’ needs by developing a
superior wireless solution that delivers a return on investment in just six to nine months,"
said Michael Lye, Aurora Network’s business development manager.
Aurora’s Outdoor Wi-Fi Access Delivery System acts as a wireless drop between
the HFC network and business customers to support public hot spots, virtual Ethernet links,
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), high speed data and video conferencing. Aurora’s system
is more flexible and scalable than alternative WLAN solutions available in the marketplace
given its ability to separate the associated backhaul technology from the 802.11-compliant
radio. Aurora’s wireless system is available in three gateway platforms.
Aurora’s PG1010 Power Gateway Platform features a hardened 1.1/2.0 DOCSIS cable
modem, network-powered -48 Vdc power supply and Power over Ethernet (PoE) output. The strand
or pedestal mounted unit has a common RF/powering port and 10/100Mbps auto-negotiating
Ethernet port. The system is DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 compliant for North America and Euro-DOCSIS
versions.
The PG1110 Power Gateway Platform uses Aurora’s 2.125 Gbps integrated Ethernet
transceiver, network-powered -48 Vdc power supply and dual PoE output ports for multiple
radio applications. The gateway can be locally monitored via the RS-232 port or remotely
monitored via Aurora’s Opti-Trace software. Pluggable optical transceivers are available
in 10km and 40km links.
Aurora’s PG1210 Power Gateway Platform includes a CWDM 100Base-FX optical
Ethernet transceiver, network-powered -48 Vdc power supply and dual PoE output ports for
multiple radio applications. It features ten G.694.2 compliant CWDM wavelengths available
in 20nm increments from 1430 to 1610nm and a minimum 60km optical link.
Aurora Networks will provide demonstrations throughout Cable-Tec Expo exhibit
hours in booth 4107.
