Aurora Networks Launches 1 GHz Transmitter

Santa Clara, CA — June 15, 2005 — Aurora Networks, a global leader in advanced optical transport systems for broadband networks, has added a new solution to its product line with the release of the AT3300G series of 1 GHz 1310 nm DFB transmitters.

Aurora’s newest transmitter was developed in response to market demand for an economic solution to increase a network’s narrowcasting capability to meet increased bandwidth requirements for advanced services such as HDTV, VoIP, VOD and high speed DOCSIS. It is ideal for segmenting markets where the demand for bandwidth requires that each individual broadband transmitter support a more limited number of subscribers.

The high density, energy-efficient AT3300G family of transmitters was engineered for glass-only link budgets, enabling short and long distance direct point-to-point node connections without performance degradation due to fiber distance. Up to 14 AT3300G series transmitters can be installed in Aurora’s 3RU CH3000 universal chassis. The transmitter is available with optional features such as circuitry that monitors against unwarranted RF level changes and support for separate broadcast and narrowcast inputs. It features a sophisticated, state-of the-art local and SNMP-compliant remote monitoring system with detailed laser performance monitoring and RF level monitoring and control. The 1 GHz transmitter series is available from 3 to 15 dBm output power.

"Aurora’s economic and highly advanced one GHz transmitter series provides a rapid return on investment by allowing cable operators to develop new revenue streams by expanding their existing HFC architecture," said Ron Wolfe, senior product manager for Aurora Networks. "The new transmitter exemplifies Aurora Networks’ commitment to providing our customers with cutting-edge broadband solutions that address their evolving needs."

Aurora’s CH3000 chassis product line includes transmitters, receivers, optical amplifiers, and optical passives. Aurora Networks will demonstrate the extensive capabilities of the AT3300G transmitter series at Cable-Tec Expo on June 15-17 in San Antonio in booth 4107.
