Aurora Networks Digital Transport Platform Cost Effectively Expands Network Capacity
Santa Clara, CA June 14, 2005 Aurora Networks has expanded its
digital return transport platform enabling cable operators to cost effectively increase
network capacity to meet growing traffic demands and deploy advanced residential and
commercial broadband services. The platform includes the addition of the DT3515C series
digital transmitter, the DT4030E series digital transceiver, and CWDM and 1550nm capabilities.
Aurora’s new digital platform provides significant advantages over traditional
analog optical transport systems including the ability to transmit up to 40 wavelengths and
80 return segments on a single fiber for distances up to 200 kilometers (km) and transport
two unique RF segments in a single data stream. In addition, the wave division multiplexing
1550nm transceiver maximizes network efficiency by transmitting return path signals on the
same fiber that carries the 1310nm forward analog transport signal.
"By listening to our customers, Aurora Networks has developed a robust
digital transport platform that addresses critical network challenges. With Aurora’s newest
solutions, cable operators can significantly expand the capabilities of their existing
architecture in a fast, economical and field-proven manner," said Ron Wolfe, senior
product manager for Aurora Networks.
Aurora’s expanded digital transport platform features the following advanced
functionalities.
High Capacity, High Density 5-65 MHz Backhaul
The new DT3515C series digital transmitter accepts two RF inputs, each containing a
unique 5-65 MHz RF return segment. These inputs are digitized and transmitted on any of the
40 available output wavelengths in the 100 GHz ITU grid. The DT3515C enables the transport
of 80 return segments on a single fiber for distances up to 200 kilometers and uses just 12
rack units of space including redundant power supplies, SNMP management, multiplexing and a
launch EDFA. For existing nodes that use analog return transport, the AR3002 dual return path
receiver fits into the same CH3000 chassis, supporting up to 28 node returns per 3RU chassis.
Segmentation of Fiber Deep Cascades
The enhanced DT4030E series of digital transceivers supplements the capacity of the Aurora
digital return path platform by segmenting a chain of concatenated transceivers into smaller
segments. For example, the DT4030E allows a chain of eight transceivers to be split into two
chains of four transceivers while using just one fiber for return transport. The DT4030E is
compatible with existing DT4000 series digital transceivers. It supports integrated Ethernet
and features integrated status monitoring.
CWDM and 1550nm Capabilities
Aurora’s DT4000 series digital transceivers enable operators to cost effectively transmit
up to 10 ITU compliant CWDM wavelengths on a single fiber, even the same fiber used for the
1310nm analog forward path signals. When combined with the DT4200 series multiplexing ''two-fer''
transceivers, up to 20 segments can be transmitted on a single fiber. For systems that want to
leverage fiber assets at minimal cost, the use of CWDM or a simple 1310/1550nm wave division
multiplexing solution often provides sufficient expansion capabilities. For even greater
capacity, Aurora offers a 40 wavelength, ITU compliant DWDM return path transport system as
well as DWDM solutions for the forward optical path.
Digital Transport Platform Demonstrations
The advanced capabilities of Aurora’s enhanced digital transport platform will be on
display at Cable-Tec Expo in San Antonio on June 15-17 in booth 4107. To schedule a private
demonstration, contact Cora Wickersham at 408.235.7026.
