Overview

Aurora Networks is a leading manufacturer of advanced, next-generation optical transport systems for broadband networks that support the convergence of digital broadband, voice, video and data applications.

Funding

Aurora Networks, founded in November 1999, initially received $10 million in Series A funding from Battery Ventures, one of the leading venture capital firms in the information technology industry. Battery Ventures has an established reputation for identifying companies with significant potential and shaping strategies to grow them into market leaders.

In a second round, Aurora received $20 million in funding from the combination of Battery Ventures, Castile Ventures and ComVentures, with the latter leading the round. Castile is a seed and early stage investor focused on the telecommunications infrastructure, Internet infrastructure and Internet enterprise sectors. ComVentures is a venture capital firm whose partners all have hands-on experience in the communications industry and which has consistently uncovered ground-breaking communications technologies.

Aurora received an additional $30 million in funding in a third round led by the Sprout Group, which joined previous investors Battery Ventures, ComVentures and Castile Ventures in providing funding for this round. The Sprout Group is one of the oldest and largest venture capital/private equity firms in the U.S., focused on helping to grow companies in datacom and telecom, healthcare technology, enterprise software, and technology-related services.
